Andersen Quartz Untethered EV Charger Installation for a New BYD

Safe & Future-Ready Installation

Preparing a Home for a New BYD Electric Vehicle. When our customer ordered their new BYD electric vehicle, they wanted everything ready before taking delivery.

Having already decided on the Andersen Quartz Untethered in Midnight Black with Nova Bronze, they were looking for an installer who could manage the entire process professionally, from assessing the property’s electrical capacity through to commissioning the charger.

Although the installation itself was relatively straightforward, every EV charger installation begins long before the first cable is installed.

It begins with making sure the property’s electrical supply can support the additional demand safely.

Looking Beyond the Charger:

One of the biggest misconceptions about EV charger installations is that fitting the charger is the difficult part.

One of the most important stages happens before the installation even begins.

As part of our standard assessment, we inspected the property’s incoming electrical supply and identified that the home was still fitted with a 60A main cut-out fuse.

While the charger itself incorporates dynamic load management, we knew this installation would benefit from an upgraded incoming supply before being placed into regular service.

Rather than simply proceeding and hoping for the best, we explained the situation to the customer and arranged the necessary DNO application so their electricity network operator could assess and upgrade the incoming supply to 80A.

It’s a step many homeowners never see! but it’s an important part of ensuring the installation is both safe and future ready.

Our Professional Solution:

With the upgrade process underway, we completed the installation to the highest standard.

A dedicated EV consumer unit was installed incorporating bidirectional RCBO protection together with surge protection, ensuring the installation complies with current regulations.

Using Doncaster EV Ultra cable, we routed the supply neatly from the side of the property to the chosen charging location at the front of the house, ready for the arrival of the customer’s new BYD.

We also installed and configured dynamic load management using a CT clamp, allowing the charger to intelligently monitor the home’s electrical demand and automatically adjust charging output where required.

Finally, the installation was fully tested, commissioned and certified before demonstrating the charger and app to the customer.

Why This Installation Matters:

To many people, this might appear to be a straightforward charger installation. Behind the scenes, however, there was much more involved.

Our job isn’t simply to mount a charger on the wall. It’s to assess the property’s electrical infrastructure, identify any limitations, work alongside the Distribution Network Operator where required and ensure every installation is completed safely and in accordance with current regulations.

That’s exactly what happened here; by identifying the existing 60A supply before the charger entered regular use, we were able to guide the customer through the next steps and help future-proof the property’s electrical supply for years to come.

The Finished Result:

The customer now has a professionally installed Andersen Quartz Untethered finished in Midnight Black with Nova Bronze, perfectly positioned for their new BYD.

The compact untethered design provides a clean, contemporary appearance, while the Nova Bronze finish adds a subtle premium detail that complements the property’s exterior.

More importantly, the customer has complete confidence that every aspect of the installation, from the consumer unit and load management through to the incoming electrical supply, has been carefully considered.

That’s the difference between simply installing a charger and delivering a complete EV charging solution.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you check the property’s main fuse before installing an EV charger?

– The incoming main fuse helps determine how much electrical load your property can safely support. If an upgrade is needed, we’ll manage the DNO application and guide you through the process before your charger is put into regular use.

What is dynamic load management?

– Dynamic load management monitors your home’s electricity usage and automatically adjusts the charger’s power output to help prevent overloading the electrical supply.

Why do you submit a DNO application?

– Every installation is assessed individually. Where required, we liaise with the Distribution Network Operator to ensure the property’s electrical supply is suitable for long-term EV charging.

Meet Victor

Hi I’m Victor, the founder of Electrics and More Midlands Ltd. When I started this company in 2019, I wanted to build the kind of electrical business that people genuinely enjoy working with. One that’s reliable, professional and built on trust.

Over the years, I’ve seen how frustrating it can be when tradespeople don’t turn up, communication is poor or customers are left wondering what’s happening next. That’s why we’ve made customer experience just as important as the quality of our workmanship. My passion is helping homeowners and businesses improve their properties safely, whether that’s installing a premium EV charger, carrying out a full rewire or upgrading an aging electrical installation. Every project is approached with the same care, attention to detail and commitment to getting it right.

I believe in giving honest advice, never recommending work that isn’t needed and taking the time to explain your options in plain English. My goal is simple: I want you to feel confident from our very first conversation through to the day the job is complete. The greatest compliment we receive is when customers recommend us to their friends and family. That’s something we never take for granted, and it’s the standard we aim for on every project.

If you’re looking for an electrician who genuinely cares about the quality of the work and the experience you have along the way, I’d love the opportunity to help.
